There is definitely a pattern. I get my bike serviced, something goes wrong.

Although in this case I wasn't very impressed with the service anyway. Tried using a local place, which turned out to be quite expensive. Today was the third ride.

It came back with the middle range of gears still quite clunky.
They fixed something in the back wheel, but then left it with a slow leak.
Then today the slow leak became a proper puncture and I had a very flat back wheel. Fortunately was within walking distance of work by that stage.
Changed the tube at lunchtime, and found the chain to be lot blacker and stickier than I'd expect after a service and three rides. So very not impressed. Guess the fact I didn't need to make a booking should have tipped me off.

At least my new rack and bag are good.

Will try the Bicycle Superstore for the next one. Nunawading Bike Hub is no good.

Today is my last day of "holiday" from work. I've been busy.

We're renovating the kitchen )

Non-house stuff )

Enough rambling. Perhaps it's time to rebuild the laptop instead of hovering around waiting for tradespeople.

Keys found. They had slid underneath the paint tray in the laundry. I did check there, but it was complicated by the fact they had stuck to the bottom, so when I merely moved the tray aside they slid with it, I needed to pick it right up before they dropped down and were revealed.

I'm looking forward to the new hot water service (currently parked in our carport). This last week or two the old one seems to be struggling to keep water warm - it's fine in the mornings, but by the time we get home we don't really need any cold water in the sink for the dishes, and last night the best I could get for a shower was tepid. We're not using any more than previously (I haven't timed David's showers, but I'm pretty sure he's not using the better part of 300L all by himself), so I blame the equipment.
If the problem persists next week, then I'll have to get out the stopwatch and invest in the little shower-timers. We have them in the showers at work here, apparently I can shower and dry inside of four minutes without feeling rushed. Takes longer if hair is being washed though, or if I'm still waking up.
Never had to think about these things in Glasgow :)

Cycled in to work today. Quite a nice little 14km ride, although part of the trail was gravel and my bike doesn't like gravel, so will try avoiding it next week. The change rooms here even have tumble dryers! Wet weather is no longer an excuse I guess.

We got a welcome pack to our new office, which included a drink voucher for the cafe downstairs. I don't drink coffee, hot chocolate wasn't an option, so I decided to try the chai latte some of you have raved about.
It is indeed rather good. I may have a new social beverage of choice.
But now it is all gone... and I want more cinnamon already :(

We also got a Whitehorse Council welcome pack last night. No vouchers, but there was a good cycle route map I used for planning todays expedition. It actually showed all portions of the bike routes fairly clearly, so I knew where to expect bike lanes, and where to look for trail openings. (Bike trails seem to be secret byways, the entrances are never as obvious to the uninitiated as the designers probably think they are).
Just a shame they don't tell me what the trail surface is like.

Wow, only a couple of weeks until Xmas, where did the months go?

We have internet at home now. I'm sure there were lots of things I was meant to do once I had internet, but right now I can't think of any of them.

So I shall ramble instead )

In summary, life is ticking along. A unit is being auctioned across the road from us this weekend, so we're going to toddle along just to see what auctions are like. Might also start looking at properties, kick off the next big project, even though we won't be able to buy anything for a while yet.
