My goodness, we have a five year old. That happened quickly.
Happy Birthday )

Party on Sunday. Just a very small one, I restricted the guest list to a few people he actually likes enough to remember their names, and only some of them are actually able to come. I'm going to put some effort into the cake though.

Mr4 started school last week, I still haven't quite got used to the idea.

Just busted Mr4 reading a Mr Men book by the light of his nightlight when he was supposed to be sleeping. Another one of those moments when you feel you should be telling them off, but really can’t because you were up way too late reading last night yourself. Besides, it’s a book.

Had a moment the other day when I suddenly realised Mr4 is growing up, nearly at school, and all too soon his peers will be more of an influence on him than I am.
No, it's too soon! I've been too busy feeding him and doing laundry, I haven't properly indoctrinated him yet!
Moving on )

Short version: I've now enrolled Mr4 in school for next year.

I've long been aware that some people have their child's education all mapped out before they've even finished gestation. We want this secondary school, we'll have a better chance of getting it if he goes to this primary school, and that means we should try for this pre-school ... but it's geographically restricted so we need to move house for a couple of years.

To which I say "Bah, I will play no part in this insanity".

Help, I am being sucked into a vortex of insanity! )

For now, time to decide what sort of cake to make for his first birthday cake.

Got a slightly cryptic facebook message about a high school reunion last night. I'm assuming it's about the school 90th anniversary reunion advertised on their website (which wasn't looking it's best).
Sounds like the organisation leaves a little to be desired, given my parents are still living and working at the same addresses as when I was at school, I'm not actually that hard to find if they wanted to send me an invite.

In any case it's Queens Birthday Weekend, and while I'm sure South Gippsland will provide lovely weather for their activities at this time of year, I'll be in Adelaide. I might be tempted along by curiosity otherwise, but realistically, I'd probably be clawing at the walls within 10 minutes of arriving. I had nothing to say to any of them when I was there, I don't expect that's changed, and the program is very much focused on sitting around talking to one another, and eating food.
I believe that's fairly standard for school reunions, but I can't help feeling it should be possible to something interesting.

Anyway, seems like an appropriate time for this highschool meme via [livejournal.com profile] drjon
