Having finally ditched the work phone and laptop, last night I donned the corset and jewelry, and David and I went to see Nightwish in concert.
Got to see inside the Carling Academy, which is impressively art deco. Through judicious use of elbows and feet I managed to keep the extremely large gentleman from shuffling in front of me so that I mostly had a view of the stage as well.
It was very good fun, even if the people around us weren't very mobile. I'm not a dancer as a rule, but I don't see the point in going to a concert if you're not going to at least bop a little. Although I also had moments where it seemed very weird that all these people were assembled facing the stage for four hours watching music, so I'm probably just odd. All the band members were quite active on stage and they made good use of the lights so I'm glad I had a reasonable viewpoint to watch the show.
After the support act and tech shuffling the room darkened, and from our high vantage point we watched a sea of lit mobile phone screens raised overhead. Like the 21st Century non-smoking culture's answer to cigarette lighters. Well, I was amused anyway.
I don't go to concerts very often so I notice these things. ;)
( A few thoughts on the new singer )
Afterward we loitered to admire the decor and tech desks a bit, briefly caught up with a fencer who was there, considered buying T-shirts but decided it wasn't worth the wait. Dashed through the rain to get the subway home.
And in about 3 weeks time we have tickets to see Sonata Arctica! Just as well I'm feeling sociable again.
