A Day Out

David and I both took a day off on Thursday to go see a couple of movies at the international film festival.

It was a lovely day, mild and sunny for the walk to the train station. First film at 11am, I'll review it later, then went wandering for lunch - ending up at a food court because we were indecisive.
After finding the new bookshop we had planned to visit hadn't actually opened yet, we wandered a bit more until I remembered that I hadn't actually seen the state library since they finished the dome renovation (yes, it had been that long). So off we went for a look.

Managed to kill lots of time in there, browsing a fencing book then resting my eyes while David finished skimming his X-Country ski book. Toured the exhibits in the upper floors of the dome, and generally admired the reading rooms.

Made our way back to the cinema for the next movie, the it was back to the train in the still mild evening, and home for dinner.

It was all very nice and relaxing. I really should do that sort of thing more often.

You may notice this post is brought to you after 1am on Saturday. I'm now killing time in the middle of my change for work. So far, it all seems to be going suspiciously well.

Going back to last weekend, we were also in town for two movies on Sunday, at 1pm and 4:15.
We took the car on that occasion after a slow moving morning, and realised too late that it was Melbourne Open House Day, so there were people (and traffic) everywhere.

We also had a little time to kill between movies that day, so went in search of hot chocolate. Koko Black was in the midst of an Open House Day rush, and we elected not to queue. Ganache proved easier to get in to, and as I hadn't tried theirs before that was a bonus. (It's very good). Finished up there just as another tour group swarmed the place, so that was lucky.

That was also a very nice day. The whole week has felt like Glasgow summer, and even our Magnolia has finally decided to start flowering. (Others that I pass on the way to work have been in full-bloom for a few weeks).
