International Women's Day
Mar. 8th, 2009 02:11 pmI'd never know about these special days if it wasn't for the internet friends list. I just don't pay attention. Let's see what I've been up to this morning...
I did the laundry.
I made Jelly Slice, primarily as a gift for My Man. (And to use up the marshmallows...)
I did a quick run for forgotten groceries.
I did the dishes.
I rescued David's bread from the machine, since he wasn't out of bed yet and the crust would go soggy if it was left in.
I watered and weeded the garden a little.
Which all sounds like I've been letting the side down a bit. But after musing on it over lunch, I think that list could be reviewed.
I prepared for work next week. Full-time, technical, well-paid work.
I was able to follow a rarely-used recipe, because I am literate.
I went out on my own, confident I would make it back unharmed, and without anyone indicating I was a deviant for even attempting it.
There was no question of being overcharged or short-changed, because I am numerate.
I cleaned up after myself, after putting away the clean dishes David did last night.
I rescued the bread, not because I feared the consequences of not doing so, but because I wanted David to be happy with his bread.
And when he finally emerged, he said thankyou, because it was not expected that I would look after his bread. Especially with being out in the garden and all.
So let us say that I have celebrated IWD by taking for granted the progress that has been made so far. Progress which is not yet enjoyed by all women.
