Scarred for Life
Mar. 5th, 2009 02:43 pmWe've had a bit of rain this week, the skies are grey and temperature has dropped dramatically.
The basic Aussie part of me is rejoicing. Yay! Rain! Happy days for the garden, stop those nasty bushfires.
and then the storm clouds gather, and we can bless again, the drumming of an army, the steady, soaking rain
The Aussie-Traumatised-by-Glasgow-Winters however is in a panic. Nooooo! Summer is gone! Come back hot weather, I'm not ready for cold and gloom yet!
Quick, let's swap hemisphere again, what's the weather in Glasgow now? ... Snow, sub-zero... Hmmm... maybe not yet. Nice revamp of the BBC weather site though.
The Naturalised-Scot regards ATbGW with contempt. What are you wailing about? A bit of water won't kill you, there's not even much of it, and it's currently 16C! That's a lovely day! Put on some warmer clothes if you don't like the breeze.
(I say naturalised-Scot, because if I have a naturalised-Brit then it is probably largely indistinguishable from the ATbGW ;-)
So yeah, one could say I'm a bit ambivalent about the whole rain thing.
Was quite amused on Tuesday, arriving at Flinders Street Station to find the exit blocked by people. Well, initially I was annoyed, wondering what the hold up was. Became amused when I realised it was because they were all cowering from the water falling from the sky. It really wasn't heavy - although I suppose that's easier to say when you've developed the habit of always carrying an umbrella with you.
Edit: Ok, apparently while I was inside composing this, we had a proper downpour. And Mt Hotham had a dusting of snow this morning!
N-S reiterates comment on warmer clothing. ATbGW clings, sobbing, to short sleeves for just a little bit longer. Aussie wonders if it will translate to good skiing this winter.
