Nullus Anxietas 2
Mar. 2nd, 2009 02:49 pmWe've now been to our first ever Aussie Discworld convention.
Possibly the highlight of the convention was just getting to see the inside of Storey Hall, the RMIT building with the spectacular green frontage. The theme continues through the interior, with the main hall in particular appearing to be infested with some sort of green alien crystal-fungus hybrid.
The layout was also mildly confusing, although worked well enough once you got used to it. The only real problem was that the space was too damn big for the convention. (And frankly, if that's the biggest problem you have with a convention, it must be pretty good.)
I'm guessing there must have been about 120 members in total. The main hall had seats for 288. Even if you have the entire convention in there it feels like a poor turn-out, and one is still left wondering where the rest of the convention has got to.
It was accompanied by a lecture hall downstairs, which must have seated at least 200. The two smaller rooms upstairs were more what I was expecting for a convention this size.
( Friday )
( Saturday )
( Sunday )
Given the convention kept fairly civilised hours (nothing starting before 10:30am!) I'm not sure why I was feeling so exhausted by the time we got home.
