Office Antics
Sep. 16th, 2004 06:51 pmFor a while I thought I had emerged from the latest round of musical chairs at the office in a good position. Things seemed to have settled down and I was left in possession of the nice new red chair, an improvement on the old one and much better than the torn seat with arm rests that someone tried to foist on me at day one of the campaign. I'd snaffled it while carelessly left between desks, and now that it was entrenched at my desk with no others nearby that could 'reasonably be mistaken' for mine it would be the height of rudeness for someone to take it. And being so obviously red in a sea of blue chairs, it's not like you could take it anonymously.
But alas, this morning I found that some earlybird had swapped it for a real dud, the height adjust broken off and it wiggled. Some people just have no respect for the rules. Darn Windows team. Looks like someone has also cleared out the stray chairs in our area to put a stop to further swapping.
I fumed for a while, looking around for possible alternatives. Unfortunately the only chairs not actually at desks have arm rests, which wouldn't substantially improve my ergonomics over the dud chair. Which reminds me, what happened to my footrest? I was supposed to have a footrest by now! Do I have to come over there and kick your ankles?
Anyway, I finally spotted a possible candidate and and went to investigate. Bonus! The space across the aisle has recently been vacated and there was a small cluster of newish blue chairs being ignored by the few remaining folk with their new red chairs. I picked out what looked like the best one and wheeled it out in triumph with no serious challenge. Returned the dud chair to replace it, and to make sure there's no good reason for it to come back to me.
