Wordy Post

Right then. What's been happening? I've no idea really...

Well, to start with, this unintentionally became tradies week.
A sunny break in the weather meant the roof people turned up to replace our leaky section of roof and stick in new insulation. Materials arrived Tuesday, then the rest of the week saw them busy climbing up and down and making a lot of noise.
Bub spent a fair amount of time glued to the window watching them move stuff up.

We'll also be getting a skylight put into the lounge, where the low light levels have always annoyed me, especially since Bub arrived and we spend so much time in there during the day - almost always with a light on.
That won't actually go in for a couple more weeks, but skylight person was here to look under the roof while he could.

After much faffing around the Tiler also chose this week to finally show up. His main job was regrouting the tiles in the upstairs bathroom.
Turns out they weren't properly installed, the grout was all that was holding a lot of them in place, so it escalated into a re-tile.
Being a handy sort, he also fixed the ceiling downstairs where we had a leak, and put down a lot of silcone upstairs to stop it happening again (we hope).

Finally we also had the electrician around to fix some lights and a cracked power switch. A new light in the balcony, along with the completion of the tiling, means the balcony is now officially finished! Yay!

Bub loved having all the people around. "People! Lots of people!" And was always quite sad when they left at the end of the day.

Meanwhile, I have an Active After Schools fencing job this term, which sees me driving 45 mins up into the hills each Monday to teach a very small class.
Normally I'd balk at traveling so far, but I need the work, and they agreed it was fine for me to bring Bub. It works out quite well really, after a busy morning at creche he falls asleep in the car and has a nap on the way there. He's a bit moody on waking unfortunately, and these days insists on joining in which is cute but a little hazardous. Definitely not the easiest point of development to be taking him with me.
One of the kids this week took a shine to him and was happy to play with him a fair bit. I'm finding it interesting that often it's the more "difficult" kids in the class that are most willing to talk to him and play at his level. Not that I really have enough for a clear trend yet.

We went for a swim on Tuesday. We've given up on formal classes for now. Essentially, for him to proceed to the next class we needed some relaxed compliance from him, and it was clear the trend was in the opposite direction. I didn't see much point paying for another term of the same things while waiting for him to mature.
Then he he was very clear for a few weeks that he didn't want to go swimming, and since we didn't have to we stayed home. I think by the end of last term he was glad to have some time just hanging around at home.
But this week we swam again, he enjoyed it, and we'll likely go back semi-regularly.

Speaking of busy schedules, at the moment I'm only doing gym on Mondays. The hope is to use Wednesdays to other things instead like use our Zoo membership or go into town to visit dad at work.
This week I went to check out the info evening at a local childcare/kinder. Nice place, but with a waiting list of 12-18 months I can see why they tell us to get in early.

Thursday now sees him in childcare for 5 hours. He's coping very well with it, apparently on the go for the whole time there, trying to keep up with the older kids. He brings home lots of paintings (apparently he's in his Orange Phase right now), and talks about playing with trucks and "Lots of Kids!"

Friday is playgroup, but the attendance has not been good this term. Bub still has fun, but sometimes asks where all the people are. I've decided to give up on it in term 4 when I'm planning to line up a lot more fencing work and put Bub in childcare for 2 full days a week. Either it will pick up and someone else will take over, it will quietly cease to be a thing, as it was before I picked it up.

So, keeping busy. Somewhere recently I had a birthday - got a new phone (which has supplied all of today's photos). I have given Bub my old one, which has made him very happy.
There was also Mothers Day. David took Bub out for a chunk of the day so I had peace and quiet to get some work done. This may not sound like much of a gift - but being able to finally get some of the more time-consuming things off my to-do list is a weight off my shoulders.
Bub brought me cards with his handprint on from both creche and childcare, along with some chatter around the whole paint-on-the-hand process and slightly blue fingernails.

Toilet training continues at a glacial pace. The star chart was an immediate success, no sooner had I explained it than he rushed into the bathroom, lifted the lid on the potty, sat down for a microsecond, then demanded his star. Things stalled a bit after that.
Anyway, long story short, he's now fairly willing to sit on either potty or toilet as long as he's fully clothed. With persuasion we get him down to just the nappy, getting that off requires a lot of preparation and effort.
On the hopeful side, at playgroup he spontaneously grabbed my hand and insisted he wanted to go to the toilet (full clothed, just playing at going through the motions, but the first time he has initiated it). And last night while refusing to put a nappy on he ran through to the bathroom when he needed to pee. Got stuck when he got there though, because he didn't want to sit on the potty without pants on, but at least it was the right room to have an accident in.
I think once he decides he *wants* to be toilet trained it will happen very quickly, he's just got very little motivation as yet.

And now it's nearly time for my bed...
