End in sight?
Feb. 6th, 2009 04:12 pmHaggling on House #1 has been ongoing, but we seem to be close to agreement.
Owners have decided they really don't want to settle until June 30. We expected this to be at least a small problem, but as it turns out our landlord contacted our letting agents just last week to say we could stay where we are on a month-by-month basis until we gave notice. So that was suspiciously easy.
But if we're spending more on rent for their convenience, they can surely come down a little more in price to compensate, yes? We're off to sign an offer to that effect tonight, then hopefully they will sign and we'll all be happy.
Revisted the house last night, just to check, since my memory of it had become blurry. It was worth doing, if only to see it when it hasn't been carefully presented for sale, and the aircon hasn't been running for a couple of weeks. As I suspected, it has many spiders who have been quite busy while the owners are away, but they all seem to be small web-weavers, I can cope with that.
Emoti-Lisa, who has been shunted to the background through all this in order to curb her enthusiasm now came to the fore - with cold feet. "It's a lot smaller than I remembered, and ..."
Logic-Lisa said "WTF? Yeah, I told you about these flaws, we have a list, remember? ... This is because of the houses we saw on the weekend when price-checking, isn't it? You're thinking about a certain unaffordable house with wood paneling, aren't you? Stop it! It was in a lousy location anyway!"
There followed a curious reversal in which Logic-Lisa was pointing out all the positives of House #1 while Emoti-Lisa wibbled.
Anyway, I've got that out of my system now. And on the plus side, an agent who sees their imminent commission getting cold feet is perhaps more likely to push a little harder for that extra price negotiation.
