I need to stop watching breakfast TV in the mornings. BBC Breakfast used to be ok, but now it's just annoying me too much.
A while back they got a new female presenter who has annoyed me from her first appearance. She's in the habit of saying daft things during interviews in a failed attempt to appear insightful, or lead the interviewee to a more interesting conclusion than seems to be forthcoming. I swear sometimes you can see the interviewee thinking 'WTF?' for a moment before carefully phrasing a reasonable response.

For example, a couple of days ago they were talking about hysterectomies (as you do over breakfast), and she made some observation about how it must be particularly traumatic because the womb is such a core part of a woman's being.
Eh? My digestive system is better described as my core, being effectively a tube down the middle. Or I'll accept the cardio-vascular system as my core, being rather essential and pervasive, with the heart at the conceptual center being a good candidate for a core organ. Of course, I don't give my physical form very high importance in defining myself as a being, so really if I have to pick an organ to represent the core part of my being the brain seems the best option. I'd rate losing any of these as more traumatic than losing my womb, especially if said womb is malfunctioning.
What good is digital TV if I can't press the red button to give the presenter a slap?

Anyway, the rot seems to be spreading. Today one of the roving reporters was burbling about watercress, the new superfood! But what is a superfood? Do we have too many? And would you eat it for breakfast?
The nutritionist did observe that you shouldn't be eating watercress to the exclusion of all else, but loses points for using the word "superfood" as if it meant something.

If anyone wants me, I'll be on the internet carefully selecting viewing that projects a vision of the world that I want to believe in. That world does not feature superfood. Except possibly in the context of educational comic strips for small children, in which case it will be wearing a cape to make it easily identifiable.
